 Cheese Wrangler

Team 5818 competed in the 2020 Infinite Recharge and 2021 Game Changers competitions with Cheese Wrangler. It is the team’s most advanced robot yet, in both hardware and software. Unfortunately, due to the global pandemic this season was cut short and Cheese Wrangler was unable to compete at its scheduled regionals. Riviera Robotics hopes to return to Houston in 2022.

 Sherman Crab

Team 5818 competed in the 2019 Destination: Deep Space competition with Sherman Crab. This robot follows the tradition of Floptimus Prime and uses a tentacle cargo collection system (the “flail of doom”) paired with an auto-centering hatch panel mechanism, emphasizing simplicity in design and reparability. The team won two offseason events, Beach Blitz and Wings Over Camarillo, being rank 1 and 2 respectively. In official competition play, the team was ranked highly and was defeated by narrow margins. Our end of season ELO ranking was 204/3760 (top 5.4%).

Floptimus Prime

Team 5818 competed in the 2018 FIRST: Power Up competition with Floptimus Prime, named because of the “floppies” used to collect power cubes. Floptimus Prime is Riviera Robotics’ most successful robot, racking up a regional win at Ventura, a finalist at Los Angeles, and ending up rank 84/3659 (top 2.3%) in the world.

Rogue Cephalopod

Team 5818 competed in the 2017 Steamworks competition with Rogue Cephalopod. This robot features a turreted collection mechanism with assisted gear placement and a low center of gravity for tip prevention. This robot was also the first (worldwide) to achieve a two gear autonomous routine.

Aggressive Bubbles

Team 5818 competed in the 2016 Stronghold competition with Aggressive Bubbles. As Riviera Robotics’ first robot, this defined our build strategy and is a direct continuation of 1717 methods. This robot sports a drivetrain with large diameter pneumatic wheels to easily traverse the field. Aggressive Bubbles also competed at the furthest away regional Riviera Robotics has ever attended, in Idaho!
